Jessika Kenney & Eyvind Kang

"Aestuarium is a meditation on a psalm of lamentation and the unary tone in the metaphor of salt and fresh water, inspired by Gaelic psalmery, Tibetan notational gestures, and the microtonality of the tetrachord. Recorded on the shore of Colvos Passage in 2005 by renowned engineer Mell Dettmer."

Jessika Kenney/Eyvind Kang
Europe tour of Aestuarium/2012

Sound actions for voice, viola, and electronics.

-What is a sound action with no words? Every action is a form of word.

So we will revisit the music of our original release (Endless, 2005) and vinyl reissue (Ideologic Organ, 2011): "meditations on a psalm of lamentation and the unary tone in the metaphor of salt and fresh water."

To this we add another series: "The Story of Iceland" told in the Javanese riddles of the pesindhen, Ajzaa (Parts), a noise improvisation on the 6th/12th c. poetry of Attar, an Abu Ata suite in the Classical Persian tradition, and "Stonehouse Songs" composed by our friend Jarrad Powell on English translations by Red Pine. All of these have developed gradually with us over the last several years and each piece is full of variables, hence the term 'sound action', which we use to support our most current intentions. Sound action includes raw sound, as well as tradition, language, space, audition, composition, improvisation, and declamation.

In a film with no light, inner frames rush through, sounding the shadow.
